Call for papers

The MEMS Student Paper Competition
2007 Annual Conference during
April 18-20, 2007
Golden Hotel in Golden, Colorado

The Mineral Economics and Management Society (MEMS) invites submissions by graduate students for its annual Student paper competition

MEMS will award the Thomas F. Torries Student Paper Award to the best student paper. The Torries Award consists of a plaque and a cash prize of US$1,000.

The author will present the winning paper at the MEMS Annual Meeting.

All students submitting papers to the competition will have the opportunity to have their paper abstracts published in the MEMS Newsletter and Website and will receive a one-year free MEMS membership.

Submission guidelines:

1. The judging committee will evaluate all submissions on the basis of the following criteria:

2. Papers are limited to 15 pages, single-spaced, including figures and tables. The paper should be prepared by one author, contain the original work of the author, and not have been published or accepted for publication at the time of submission. The author should be a registered graduate student or have graduated no more than one year prior to the meeting date. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2007.

3. The session organizers (Rod Eggert, Colorado School of Mines, and Jianping Zhang, Government of the Northwest Territories) will read the submitted papers and select three finalists, aided by a subset of the judging committee. The full judging committee will conduct the final evaluation.

The winning paper must be presented by the student at the MEMS meeting and will be published in the MEMS newsletter
